To reach Perugia from outside Italy, the most convenient option is usually to fly into one of the major nearby airports—such as Rome Fiumicino, Florence, Bologna, or Pisa—and continue by train (Trenitalia) or bus (FlixBus, MarinoBus, Sulga) to Perugia. Alternatively, some low-cost airlines serve the smaller Umbria International Airport (Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi), located just outside the city, with shuttle and bus connections to the center.
If there is no direct flight to Perugia, it is usually best to fly to Rome Fiumicino and then continue by train or bus from Roma Termini or Tiburtina stations. Below, we provide more details on these two options.
Umbria International Airport
Perugia has a small international airport: Umbria International Airport (Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi) . During the winter season (until the end of March), the airport offers flights to and from London Stansted (operated by Ryanair) and Tirana (operated by Wizz Air). The complete destinations map is available here.

Information on transportation from the airport to the city center is available here.
Rome FCO Airport
If you cannot take a direct flight to Perugia, we recommend flying to Rome Fiumicino (FCO), the main Italian airport, located about 200 km from Perugia.
From Rome FCO to Perugia by Bus
The bus companies FlixBus and
Sulga operate routes from Rome FCO to Perugia.
Alternatively, you can first take a direct train from Rome FCO to Tiburtina station (every ~15 minutes, ~48 minutes journey) and then continue by bus. Once at Tiburtina, bus options include
FlixBus,
MarinoBus, and
Sulga.
- On Tuesday 3, a SULGA bus leaves FCO at 14:30 and arrives in Perugia (city center, P.zza Partigiani) at 18:15; tickets are available here.
- On Tuesday 3, multiple FLIXBUS buses depart from Tiburtina station in the morning and afternoon, arriving in Perugia (city center, P.zza Partigiani) in about 2 hours and 20 minutes; find schedules here.
